Thurible

Manufactured of was cast and engraved gilded silver in a Wallachian workshop, the thurible (object of worship used to burn incense and myrrh) has the shape of a hemisphere, supported on one leg with six lobes. The top is shaped in a circular tower resting on four smaller towers decorated with tulip flowers, as well as acanthus leaves and vines. The base of the tower, the top of the hemisphere and the upper part of the leg are decorated with fleurons (carved ornaments, shaped as stylised flowers or leaves) made using the polishing and repoussé techniques. A Romanian-language inscription written in Cyrillic letters at the bottom of the hemisphere reads "...We bring You, our Lord, and to Saint Constantin, the great emperor, and to his holy mother, Eleni, this thurible to burn incense for You; by Your devout servant, Cernica Știrbeai, former constable and keeper of all dungeons; and by his wife, Lady Mariia; gifted to this holy monastery during my time as a governor. This 21stday of August, in the year of our Lord 7203." TREASURY item.
