Chalice

The chalice is offered to the monastery Brancoveni by Prince Matthew Basarab and his wife Helen. Made in 1636, of gilded silver, hammered au repoussé, and polished, has the signature of the craftsman Alexander's Acrivis from Trikke-Greece. The composition includes various themes: Dinner at Mamre, the head of an ox (symbol of the Evangelist Luke), the eagle (symbol of the Evangelist John), Our Lady Platitera, lion (symbol of the Evangelist Mark) and angel (Matthew's symbol).
